Welcome to Friends of the Sèvres Museum Society (FSMS)

The Friends of the Sèvres Museum Society (FSMS) (Société des Amis du Musée national de Céramique de Sèvres) is set up to promote and develop the Sèvres national Museum for Ceramics and study ceramics from all countries and periods. To meet these objectives, FSMS organises monthly lectures and cocktails, seminars, visits to exhibitions, museums and private residences, as well as study trips in France and abroad.

The FSMS has more than 600 members from France and numerous other countries around the world.

Most interesting lectures have been delivered to growing audiences by over 160 lecturers since 1985.

Yearly trips to numerous countries are organized for FSMS members, enabling them to discover major ceramic collections with the greatest specialists in the domain.

The Sèvres National Museum for Ceramics

Located in Sèvres on the banks of the river Seine nearby Paris, the national Museum for Ceramics and the Sèvres national Manufactory embrace a great cultural heritage. In January 2010, both institutions have been merged into a single public corporation entitled “Sèvres – Cité de la céramique”.
Initially set up at the beginning of the 19th century by Alexandre Brongniard, then Director of the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory, the national Museum for Ceramics houses one of the world’s largest collection of ceramics from all countries produced from the Antiquity to modern times, encompassing all techniques including pottery, tin glaze earthenware, stoneware, siliceous pottery, porcelain as well as enamel and glass. The Museum presently shelters 50,000 ceramics.

Five thousand pieces are permanently on public view on two floors.
Temporary exhibitions are generally presented on the third level (see Sèvres Museum's exhibitions).

The exhibition rooms are open from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm except on Tuesday and on certain public holidays in France.

All enquiries regarding visits for groups, children and schools, or about individual subjects, as well as the porcelain painting classes, can be obtained by calling the museum at
