| Located in Sèvres on the banks of the river Seine nearby Paris, the national Museum for Ceramics and the Sèvres national Manufactory embrace a great cultural heritage. In January 2010, both institutions have been merged into a single public corporation entitled “Sèvres – Cité de la céramique”.
Initially set up at the beginning of the 19th century by Alexandre Brongniard, then Director of the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory, the national Museum for Ceramics houses one of the world’s largest collection of ceramics from all countries produced from the Antiquity to modern times, encompassing all techniques including pottery, tin glaze earthenware, stoneware, siliceous pottery, porcelain as well as enamel and glass. The Museum presently shelters 50,000 ceramics.
Five thousand pieces are permanently on public view on two floors.
Temporary exhibitions are generally presented on the third level (see Sèvres Museum's exhibitions).
The exhibition rooms are open from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm except on Tuesday and on certain public holidays in France.
All enquiries regarding visits for groups, children and
schools, or about individual subjects, as well as the porcelain
painting classes, can be obtained by calling the museum
